Hi there,
We are a group of six students with different expertises doing a multidisciplinary project in Guatemala. We are based in Monterrico, at the south coast of the country, where a big mangrove biotope is located. 20 years ago, parts of the forest were burned down, and the forest seems to have problems regrowing.
In this project, we aim to look into the water management, water quality and water flow problems that might interrupt the regrowth of the mangrove forest. Here we combine our expertises in hydrology, hydraulic engineering, structural engineering and hydraulic structures. We will do fieldwork to be able to analyze the data, which we will back up with interviews and literature research. The goal of this project is to conduct a problem analysis of the area and give further recommendations to look for a solution and strive for a healthier mangrove forests.
