In the weeks wrapping up our project we have a presentation to the local community in Spanish showcasing our data and results. They appreciated our work towards providing evidence towards the need for conservation of cloud forests. We completed 3 rounds our data collection on 3 different land use types: pine, agroforest, and cloud forests. The sensors have continued to be put into trees with a bow, arrow, and pulley approach with great success. The preliminary data suggest high humidity at the top of the trees and at the surface of the earth, the cloud forests often show 100% humidity at the top indicating cloud formation. Apart from images this means we have real raw data or exact time of cloud formation. Below you can see a picture of pine with 3 sensors and heat shields installed in a tree at a local dairy farm. We also took a weekend trip to Tikal an archeological Mayan site, we heard howler moneys, watched the sunrise, and saw many temples. Our time here has been unforgettable.
