Maldives Matter | Tomato tests

Time for an update!

A few weeks/months ago we have started a tomato growtest with the help of S4S: Currently approximately 20 tomato plants are growing at the Maldives in a foil greenhouse.

The goal of the test: growing tomato plants in the Maldavian climate. Depending on the results (how well they are growing, how many tomatoes they produce) we get an indication for the climate resistance of the plants. Tomato plants are a good benchmark for the intended crops. Why this tes: We of Resilient Island Foundation develop a self-sufficient, sustainable greenhouse for commercial scale at the Maldives.

Together, NGO Live&Learn (L&L) and Resilient Island Foundation (RIF) setup the test. Rijkzwaan, renowned producer of vegetable seeds, generously provided three types of tomatoplants for the conducting of this test.

Location: Hanimaadhoo, Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Maldives.
