Waste Management and EcoTourism Lombok

Location: Lombok, Indonesia | |

We are Nienke van Dijk, Mieke Wells, Richard Lamb and David van Beusekom, four Dutch students from TU Delft, Leiden University and Erasmus University.

As part of the International Entrepreneurship & Development Minor, we are working with the Indonesia Biru Foundation (IBF), Cemare Eco Green, and Students for Sustainability (S4S) to support the Cemare Mangrove in Lombok, Indonesia.

Our project focuses on reducing plastic waste and promoting sustainable eco-tourism that benefits both nature and the local community. Together with local partners, we will research how plastic enters the mangrove, design a small-scale prototype to recycle and reuse it, and improve ecotourism activities by creating educational materials, new kayak tours, and community workshops.

With support from S4S, we aim to turn our ideas into practical results that last beyond our stay. We will also help organise Coral Connect 2025, an event that connects students, locals, and organisations to share knowledge and inspire action for sustainable development.

Through this project, we hope to make the Cemare Mangrove cleaner, stronger, and an example of how collaboration can create real impact.
