Hi! We’re Anoushka, Carijn, Elyse and Laurien, a team of students from TU Delft working together with Wenchi College of Agriculture and Applied Technology and local rice farmers in Ghana. Our project focuses on improving the quality of parboiled rice, a common processing method where rice is soaked, steamed, and dried before milling. While parboiling enhances the nutritional value and shelf life of rice, it’s often done without precise temperature control, leading to inconsistent quality and food waste.
To tackle this, we’re developing a simple, durable thermometer designed specifically for Ghanaian rice processors. The tool doesn’t rely on reading numbers, making it easy to use for everyone. By combining local knowledge with practical technology, we aim to support farmers in producing higher-quality rice, reducing waste, and creating more sustainable livelihoods across the region.
