Mesoamericano well-being space

Location: Guatemala | |

Hi all!

It is with great pleasure that I, Marit, a third-year Architecture student, introduce to you a construction project I will be contributing to this summer. For four weeks, I will be staying in Guatemala to help build a classroom for a primary school.

As part of a collaborative learning experience, the Meso Foundation and CAUKIN Studio have joined forces for a special initiative at Colegio Mesoamericano in Chimaltenango. Colegio Mesoamericano is a primary school located about 40 kilometers from Antigua, Guatemala. The school focuses on strengthening the mental resilience of its students. The goal of this project is to support that mission by constructing a dedicated therapy space.

This therapy room will be designed as a multifunctional, serene space where students can work on their mental well-being. It will provide a safe, comfortable, and natural environment where students can have one-on-one conversations with counselors or teachers—separated from the daily hustle and bustle of school life.

With an eye on the future, the design will be sustainable and low-maintenance. To realize this, the project brings together local craftsmen, the school, the architecture firm CAUKIN Studio, the non-profit organization Meso Foundation, and architecture students from around the world. Together, we will build this special space—a space that will truly be embraced by everyone who uses it. Thanks to the involvement of different parties, knowledge from various disciplines will be shared.

With this project, we aim not just to construct a building, but more importantly to contribute to the well-being and future of the students at Colegio Mesoamericano.

I look forward to keeping you updated on these developments!
