Hi!
This year in Energy for Refugees, we want to use our voice, position and expertise to empower people that are impacting lives every day. For this reason, we will be doing our first project in Africa, providing a solar system to a vocational centre run by Ki4bli(Kalobeyei Initiative for Better Life) in Kakuma Refugee camp, Kenya.
To provide you with context, Kakuma (Which means “Nowhere” in Kiswahili) is a place where access to energy and employment are below 10%. It is also home for some of the most resourceful and hardworking people in the world who are screaming for an opportunity. This is why the Vocational Centre is such an impactful project as it connects the youth to online jobs by providing training for coding, digital marketing and video edition, as well as equipment and internet to work on. Our system will allow Ki4bli to increase the site threefold and save them 10% of their operational budget.
